The Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts: A Brief History

As a realtor in Lake Oswego, I’ve seen firsthand how this town has grown into a vibrant community full of art, culture, and events. One of the most beloved events in Lake Oswego is the Festival of the Arts, which has been a staple of the community for over 50 years.

The Festival of the Arts began in 1963 as a small art show with just 26 artists displaying their work. Since then, it has grown into a three-day event that attracts over 25,000 visitors each year. The festival features over 100 artists, live music, food vendors, and a variety of family-friendly activities.

Over the years, the festival has expanded to include a variety of art forms, including painting, sculpture, photography, and mixed media. Each year, a new theme is chosen to inspire the participating artists and add an extra layer of creativity to the event. Past themes have included “Water Works,” “The Art of Time,” and “Art in Motion.”

In addition to showcasing local and regional artists, the festival also provides a platform for emerging artists to gain exposure and sell their work. The festival’s Emerging Artist program allows artists who are new to the festival scene to display their work alongside more experienced artists.

The Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts has become a beloved tradition in our community, and it’s easy to see why. It’s a celebration of creativity, culture, and community that brings people together from all walks of life. It’s just one of many events and attractions that make Lake Oswego a magical place to call home.
